Tonight was the second night in a row that 10 or more gunshots were fired, gangland style, in the Northwest Quadrant of downtown Beaufort. Residents of the Northwest Quadrant within close earshot of the scene reported hearing 20-30 shots last night from at least two different weapons. One person witnessed an individual running down the street after the shooting and being picked up in a white impala at the cemetery on Bladen Street. The same person recounts waiting 15 minutes for police to arrive. When they did arrive they seemed confused as to the situation and dismissive of the eye witness information provided. After telling the officer about the shots fired his response was "I didn't hear anything." This sort of situation has become endemic to the area say locals, who can attest to gunfire being a regular occurrence every couple of weeks. Many say enough is enough, given lack of patrols, inadequate response times, and proximity of the police department which is located on Boundary Street: just across the road. A general consensus has formed that police responses aren't concerned with the safety of residents and show a lack of any real sense of urgency. A resident by the national cemetery stated that they called 911 tonight saying "this is two f****** nights in a row and my emergency is for someone to start patrolling these streets." Officers stated finding multiple casings last night, which comes as no surprise to those in the neighborhood.

Tonight's shooting consisted of at least 10 rounds just after 9pm, report residents of both the Northwest Quadrant and Pigeon Point. To locals in the area it felt like another sickening case of déjà vu.
